(B) During fusion of synaptic vesicles to the presynaptic membrane, γ-secretase cleaves βCTF and releases Aβ in the synaptic area. (C) Swedish mutation on BACE1 cleavage site cause an increased BACE1 cleavage and this may promote glutamate release.
