Ceramide synthase 2 is decreased in naked mole-rat tissues in both the cerebellum (B) and hippocampus (C). Sphingosine phosphodiesterase 3, a member of the sphingomyelinase family (also called neutral sphingomyelinase 2) is decreased in naked mole-rat hippocampus (D) where sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 is decreased in the cerebellum (E) and the cerebral cortex (F). ND indicates not detected or quantifiable. The homology between the two species, relative to mouse, was 81% (A), 90% (B), 91.3% (C) and 95% (D).
